Explicit Estimation of Deformations of Functions

The problem of estimating the geometric deformation between two functions is highly non-linear and high dimensional. Using principles borrowed from classical system theory, we show that there exists a set of non linear functionals that form "eigenspaces" simultaneously for all these problems. It is further shown that using these functionals, the problem can be solved linearly, explicitly and universally -- that is, independently of the geometric deformation model or the reference function. The effectiveness of the proposed novel methodology will be demonstrated on a variety of image analysis applications.
