The parametric vector auto-regressive (PVAR) technique for adaptive beamforming has been proposed by several authors in recent years. In this presentation the convergence properties of the PVAR method are derived, and its performance in the presence of unknown errors in the knowledge of the array manifold analyzed. The results show that the PVAR technique has limited practical utility, since there are other methods with the same sensitivity to array manifold errors but which converge faster.
